Every October schools across the country participate in National Bullying Prevention Month. The Clearview Middle School Counseling Department takes this as an opportunity to engage all of our students in discussions and activities surrounding the importance of this topic.
This year, the Counselors reached out to our 8th grade students and asked them to create messages that they felt would impact their peers as well as students nationwide. We discussed the power of student voices to reach others and also promote positive changes in behavior in our school. The outcome was amazing. The messages are powerful and have been turned into bulletin boards throughout the building, changing several times throughout the rest of the school year. As one of our students noted, “Adults may be 77% of the population now, but kids are 100% of the future. Make the change to end bullying now!” Bullying prevention is no longer an October initiative, but a year-long event.
